Helen Pinion, 95, died peacefully into eternity with her Savior on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at her daughter’s home under the care of her family and Avita Hospice.
On October 13, 1930, Magdaline Susanna Follman was born in Mansfield to the late John and Susanna (Mergel) Follman. Always known as Helen, her family made their way to Bucyrus where they owned and operated Pleasant Inn, a restaurant serving delicious comfort food and the best mashed potatoes. Helen later worked for Westinghouse in Upper Sandusky. On November 17, 1962, she married Porter Pinion and they shared 46 years of marriage when he preceded her in 2009.
Helen’s life and eternity changed forever when she kneeled at her bedside after hearing the gospel at an evangelical meeting and asked Christ to be her Savior. She was not ashamed of the gospel and lived and shared her faith every day. Helen joined Bucyrus Alliance Church in 1981 and was an active member, serving as a deaconess, teaching Sunday School, stocking the missions cabinet, looking after the library, and preparing communion elements. She was also a gifted poet, sharing her faith journey through the written word, “I’m not the same as I used to be…My soul is clean at last.”
Helen was a prayer warrior, read her Bible a lot, and had great recall of dates and facts. She was also a gifted cook. Cookies were her specialty, and the grandchildren got monster cookies. All the babies born into her family also received afghans she crocheted. She visited 22 states where she enjoyed fishing, Bluegrass music, and sightseeing. She adored her family, praying for them daily, supported the work of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and sponsored three girls through Compassion International. All three of them received Bibles on their birthdays.
Helen is survived by daughter, Elaine (John) Eader; son, Ron (Dawn) Pinion; grandson, Chad (Kristi) Eader and their children, Joselyn, Collin, and Connor; granddaughter, Heidi Hines and her children, Jasmine, Jayla, Jacie, Jade, Jara, and Jacob; grandson, Tyson (Elizabeth) Pinion and their daughter, Emery; granddaughter, Tiniel (Dewayne) Nickler and their children, Gatlin, Adalyn, Mags, and K-Lynn; granddaughter, Tiffini (Bill) Signoracci and their children, Beau Heffner, Haleigh Jo Heffner, and Oliver Signoracci; as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by grandson, John R. Eader and his wife Patsy; daughter-in-law, Kay Pinion; stepmother, Irene Kohmann Follman; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Gene Schroeder.
All services will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 2 from 2-5 pm. The funeral will be on Monday at 11:00 am with Pastors Don Riley and Rick Maddox officiating. She will be entombed in the mausoleum at Crawford County Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to be given to Bucyrus Alliance Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Helen’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
