Hazel L. Hardymon

Hazel L. Hardymon, 90, died Thursday, November 5, 2026 at her home under the care of her family and Tranquility Hospice.

She was born in the hills of Lewis County, Kentucky on August 10, 1936 to William T. Meadows and Amy F. (Sanders) Meadows Nance. When she was 15 Hazel left the hills, where her father grew tobacco and sold firewood, and lived in Portsmouth, Ohio where she met Donald Hardymon. They corresponded while he was in the Air Force. They were married April 17, 1955 and eventually made their way to Crawford County, Ohio where they raised their family. Hazel was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Don preceded her in death on September 8, 2010.

Hazel will be remembered for her fun and feisty strong will. She was an early riser who had her morning coffee with oatmeal and fresh fruit. Her yard was her sanctuary and Hazel took joy in seeing that it was well cared for with her beloved Wheelhorse garden tractor. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and even hanging wallpaper. Her family was her greatest treasure and she remembered birthdays even as the numbers grew.

Hazel looked forward to day trips with her family and friends. She was a faith-filled soul who fellowshipped with the senior groups from Gospel Baptist and Calvary Baptist. She and Don also attended Whetstone Baptist Church in years past.

Hazel is survived by children, Patricia (Joseph) Myers, Debra (Jim) Roberts, Ricky (Donna) Hardymon, and Daniel (Michelle) Hardymon; 20 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Maysel Domrose.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; grandchildren, Velenia Hoffman, Angela DeLong, and Dijon DeLong; and great grandchildren, Kohen Robinett and Nalani DeLong.

Hazel’s services will be held on Monday, November 9 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 12-12:55 pm and her funeral will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lyle Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in Whetstone Cemetery.

Memories and photos can be shared in the guestbook of Hazel’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
