Harrison L. Jacobs

Harrison Leroy “Jake” Jacobs, 87, formerly of Bucyrus died peacefully Saturday morning, September 23, 2017 under the hospice care of the Dayton VA Medical Center after a month of failing health.

He was born in Bucyrus August 24, 1930 to the late Howard B. and Mable M. (Hale) Jacobs and grew up near Nevada where he graduated from high school in 1950. That fall, he enlisted in the US Navy, embarking on a career that spanned over 20 years and stationed him all over the world, retiring with a service related disability in 1971. He later did upholstery work and was a supervisor for Honey Creek Meat Processing.

Jake, who many knew as Bud, enjoyed gardening and taking good care of his lawn and home on East Irving St. He enjoyed Asian, especially Japanese culture. He had a large collection of TV shows and movies and watched westerns and cartoons. He liked to fish on occasion and pick blackberries and elderberries for winemaking. He also loved the company of his cat, Fluffy. While he will be remembered as ornery, stubborn, and opinionated, he was also the first to help a friend in need.

Jake is survived by four children, Daniel (Hui) Jacobs of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Debra (Archie) Lundy of East Jordan, Michigan, Dennis (Pamela) Jacobs of Green Forest, Arkansas, and Diana (Brian) Smith of Belgium, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Margie (Jack) Kirby of Cookeville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joel Pardee and Janice Lundy and two sisters, Marie Gangluff and Mary “Dolly” Hoover-Hawk.

Private services are being held under the direction of Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Jake will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memories and photos can be shared on Jake’s Tribute Wall.
