Gloria E. Burkett

Gloria E. Burkett, 82, of Galion, died, Friday, December 15, 2017 at her home where she was surrounded by many who loved her dearly.

She was born May 28, 1935 in Bucyrus to the late James M. and Gertrude E. (Tallman) McDougle. On December 31, 1955 she married Charles F. Burkett and following his death on March 17, 1985 a small portion of her heart left also.

Gloria was a God-fearing woman who also loved her family. She had been active at Whetstone Baptist Church until her health declined and was proud to have donated her piano to the church. As a mom, she was directly involved in the lives of her children and when grandchildren came along, she was more than eager to watch them whenever the opportunity arose. She had a knack for cooking and baking and will be remembered for her wonderful spaghetti, tuna and noodles as well as her fudge which she made during the Christmas season.

Gloria’s days always began with a bowl of Raisin Bran cereal and her coffee. In addition to time spent with family, she could often be found canning vegetables, doing crossword puzzles or word searches and latch hooking which became wonderful gifts for family. For down time, she routinely watched channel 10 news, Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right as well as followed her favorite Cleveland Indians and Browns all in the company of her four-legged companion, Molly.

She is survived by seven children, Michael (Cara) Burkett, Raymond Burkett, Susan (Jon) Freeman, Carol (Dan) Noggle, Sandra (Gary) Gallant, Lisa (Bill) Burks and James (Rhonda) Burkett; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Gene (Betty) McDougle as well as three nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tami Burkett and a brother, Donald McDougal.

Her family will receive friends from 12-1 pm Wednesday, December 20 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will be held that day beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Larry Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be given to her family to offset expenses.
