Gertrude "Trudy" Ruehle

Gertrude Arlene Ruehle, known as “Trudy” to her beloved family and friends, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Willow Brook at Delaware Run in Delaware, Ohio. Throughout her final days on Earth, she was surrounded by family from near and far. Each of her daughters, Kathleen Jenney and Debbie Miller, were on her right and left sides as she passed, and Trudy’s family wishes to thank the compassionate staff for their loving and tender care provided.

She was born to the late James and Grace (Farrell) Wiley on October 17, 1935 in Shelby, Ohio and raised in Tiro. Trudy was a 1953 graduate of Tiro High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Otterbein University.

Trudy married Donald Ruehle on February 15, 1959 and shared 57 years of marriage until his passing on December 2, 2016. They lived a full life in Lykens dedicated to each other, farming, and family: two children, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Trudy’s legacy will be carried forward by her adoring family, including her steadfast commitment to hard work, loyalty to her family, love of bright red cardinals, and magic in the kitchen, especially when making homemade chili, meatloaf, chocolate chip cookies, and award-winning pies. Trudy loved to garden, as well, and grew cucumbers, peaches, tomatoes, green beans, and sweet corn. Alongside her family, she would can, pickle, preserve, and freeze the fresh fruits and vegetables she grew to enjoy year-round. She also loved crossword puzzles, novels, the color yellow, and butter pecan ice cream.

Trudy was well known for attending every family event possible. From tennis matches and soccer games to graduations and weddings, Trudy was always there. Throughout her final years, Trudy enjoyed her winters in Cape Coral, Florida and would often visit Disney World in nearby Orlando with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Trudy enjoyed her involvement in her local church and women’s groups and was also a strong supporter of the Lykens Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. Her presence was quiet yet powerful and she embodied strength, patience, and wisdom more and more each day.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Debbie Miller of Bucyrus and Kathleen Jenney of Dublin; her grandchildren, who she adored, Tiffany (Mike) Allard and their two children, Michael and Emma, Stacy (Jim) Webb and their two children, Madeline and Ethan, Adam Miller and girlfriend, Kristi Gillfillan, Sarah (Mark) McClain, Chelsea (Jared) O’Leary and their son, Sullivan, Amy Jenney and fiancé Ben Driskell and daughters, Anslee, Mylah, and Rowan; brother, Harold Wiley; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wiley.

In addition to her husband and parents, Trudy was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Wiley; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Wiley, and her son-in-law, Steven J. Miller.

Her family will receive friends from 10-11:25 am Monday, April 11 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio, where her Celebration of Life Service will begin that day at 11:30 am. Those unable to attend her funeral in person are invited to visit her tribute wall at www.wisefuneral.com to view a live webcast of her funeral. Trudy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Donald, in Brokensword, Ohio.

If desired, donations can be made payable to the Lykens Volunteer Fire Dept and these gifts will be accepted through the funeral home.
