Genavee Smith - Lewis

Genavee Smith - Lewis, 86, of Bucyrus, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at MedCentral Health System of Mansfield. She was born September 22, 1923 in Xenia, Ohio to the late Sampson H. and Hulda Blanche (McCoy) Hilderbrandt. Genavee graduated from Xenia High School and in 1943 she married Glen H. Smith. She then married Chester R. Lewis in 1947 and both preceded her in death. In addition to being a homemaker, Genavee also worked as a secretary. She worked for Greene County Probate Court; Greene County Agricultural Extension Office and for Welsh Realty before retiring. She lived the majority of her life in Xenia, although she did live in Florida for eighteen years and resided in Bucyrus since 2000. Genavee was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and attended the Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a Sunday school teacher and Missionary President for many years and volunteered at the Crawford County Court House. She is survived by one son, Glen Smith and wife Olive; two grandchildren, Christopher Smith and wife Kay and Monica Johnson; great grandchildren, Luke Smith, Rosalyn Johnson and Isabel Johnson all of Bucyrus; two brothers, Ray Hilderbrandt and wife Irene and Harley Hilderbrandt and wife Wanda both of Xenia. Preceding her in death are a grandson-in-law, Jeremy Johnson; two brothers and their spouses, Chester (Lillian) Hilderbrandt and Ora (Elba) Hilderbrandt and three sisters and their spouses, Violet Hilderbrandt, Alice (Herbert) Early and Aretta (Gus) Augustus.
