G. Marc Schell

Gregory Marc Schell, who was born September 8, 1953 to the late Jim Schell and Ruth (Dintaman) Kibler, passed away on Thursday March 14, 2024 after a life well lived and a battle with Multiple Myeloma. He is survived by the love of his life, Michelle (Lawson) Schell; their daughter, Mackenzie (Matt) McComb and his granddaughters, Lena, Ayla, and Maddie.

Marc grew up and lived his entire life in Bucyrus. He spent many years working for Checkmate Boats as their purchasing agent and loved telling stories of the adventures he had racing for them as well as going to boat shows. He ended his working career at the Crawford County Auditor’s Office, working as a deputy auditor and enjoyed his duties that took him outside the office and allowed him to travel around the countryside and visit with area farmers. But of all the jobs he did, he would tell you that his favorite was working on Wayne Erwin’s horse farm in his younger years.

Throughout his life, Marc was a lover of fast cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles and traveling. He and Michelle spent many years riding their Harley’s, cruising around in their convertible, spent as much time as possible at Lake Erie and enjoyed vacationing at a beach somewhere warm. They loved finding hidden treasures off the beaten path and everywhere they went, they quickly fit in like the regulars who had been hanging out for years. Over the past 13 years, they probably spent more time at their camper at Lake Erie than they did at their home in Bucyrus. He loved visiting local watering holes, watching boats on the lake and simply hanging out at the campground with close friends, who he considered family, especially Lester and Blo.

He loved his buddies at VFW 1078. Mark, Mike, and other crew members that wanted to join in on the laughs.

Whether referred to as G. Mark to his friends, Lieutenant Dan to his camper buddies, or Bubba to his girls, he was happiest on the water, at the beach or with his grandbabies. He absolutely lit up for the girls and was the best grandpa imaginable.

To everyone else, Mr. Schell was tough and gruff, but if you got him laughing; really belly laughing, you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. Mackenzie will miss wrestling around and giving him a hard time. Bubba made sure that Kenz was rough and tough, but also tried keeping her a little lady like and the laughs they shared will allow his memory to live on.

At Marc’s request there will be no services and his cremated body will be spread at some of his favorite places. Going forward, if you have a glass, raise it up, and share a toast to a wonderful life lived. From the man himself, in some of his comforting last words, “that’s a wrap”.

If desired, donations can be made payable to the Bucyrus Athletic Boosters and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Memories and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook.
