Frances M. Reiter

Lifelong Bucyrus resident, Frances M. Reiter, 85, passed peacefully Monday, August 30, 2021 at Carlisle Place.

She was born July 25, 1936 in Bucyrus to the late Leo and Lucy (Hopkins) Spiegel and was a 1954 graduate of Bucyrus High School. On February 14, 1961, she married Edward L. Reiter and he preceded her in death on April 16, 2016.

Frances worked as a legal secretary for many years and was a great asset to Vollrath & Cory, Bill Beer, Stan Flegm and John Spiegel. She also spent ten years working as the Crawford County Law Librarian before her retirement. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus, where she taught both youth and adult Sunday School classes. Frances was a member of the Association of Law Librarians and active in writing clubs, as early in life, she dreamed of writing children’s books. She was also a member of the Crawford County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

Frances will be remembered for her zany sense of humor and for her unique laugh. She and Ed shared many travels all over the United States and many of their trips consist of “Glamping” at various camp sites. She was always eager to be around family and they shared many good times at her home tailgating, eating her favorite pizza from Pisanello’s and watching OSU Football, Go Bucks! Frances also looked forward to her monthly class gathering at the Pelican Coffee House. She had a big heart for her pets over the years was especially close with her dog Stoney, who gave her many smiles.

Frances was a very crafty lady, who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing. It’s rumored that she used her crafting abilities along with her needle work to invent the first dish carriers, tissue box covers, hand knitted fly swatters and other items that became gifts for family and friends over the years. In down time she enjoyed a weak cup of coffee while working crossword puzzles but her greatest hobby or pastime, was genealogy. This was introduced by her best friend (her mom) and Frances has added many branches to many different trees over the years.

Frances is survived by daughter, Jill Grove of Ocala, Florida; twin grandsons, Schuyler (Lauren) Grove, DC of Ocala, Florida and Stacey (Melissa) Grove of Portugal; six great grandchildren, Ezra, Aria, Scarlett, Penelope, Alara and Liana; siblings, John (Norma) Spiegel of Bucyrus and Wayne (Linda) Spiegel of Ostrander; four sisters-in-law, Judy Miller, Lillian Joan Allen, Barbara Jean Moore and Suzanne Marie Johnson as well many extended family members who Frances loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Edward L. Reiter; daughter, Beth Reiter and brother, Jim Spiegel.
