Eugene Stuart Farmer, 71, of Bucyrus, died Friday, April 21, 2023 at The OSU James Cancer Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1952 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late Oather James and Freda Louise (Candel) Farmer and was a 1970 graduate of Col. Crawford High School. Gene worked at Shelby Tubing for several years, and also tended bar at The Rail and Wren’s Nest.
Whether referred to as Gene, Stu or simply, Farmer, he was happiest being around others and enjoyed many good conversations with friends and patrons while tending bar. Sports in general were Gene’s biggest hobby. In his earlier years, his life was consumed with playing basketball, baseball, and football and for a short time, he played for the Shelby Blues semi-pro football team. Gene also spent many years playing in various adult softball leagues. He was passionate when rooting for his Indians, Browns and Buckeyes and could often be heard by neighbors as he cheered or vented his displeasures. Gene also liked going for walks, traveling to places with friends and at one time, had quite the sports card collection.
He is survived by siblings, Floyd Farmer, Sherry (Mo) Laek, Linda Martin and Sandra (Richard) Imbody as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his stepfather, Warren Striker and his sister, Ginger Brown.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 3 at the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium. Donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and these gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service or on the morning of services. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his tribute wall.
