Esther M. Vanhorne

Esther May VanHorne, 88, longtime North Robinson resident died Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Orchard Park Assisted Living in Bucyrus.



She was born October 15, 1932 in Cincinnati to the late Peter and Flora (Burden) Wagner. After her mother’s untimely death and her father’s service in the Marines, the Wagner family relocated to Crawford County and Esther attended Galion Schools. She met William F. VanHorne on a double date and they were married on November 19, 1949. After a honeymoon spent deer hunting and tent camping in Pennsylvania, Bill built their home in North Robinson. They shared 67 years of marriage when Bill preceded her in death on May 8, 2017. She was active in the United Methodist Women’s club of the former North Robinson UMC.



Esther loved the outdoors and family gatherings. The family enjoyed vacations in Michigan each Memorial Day weekend and grandchildren remember roller skating in grandma’s basement and other activities. Unsolicited advice was often given, but it was done with love and concern. Esther also loved rescuing many animals over the years.



Esther is survived by children, Judy (Lester) Montgomery of Missouri and Gevin VanHorne of Marion; grandchildren, Bobbi (Tim) Alspach, Kim (Perry) Ratliff, Bill Nickell, Beth Montgomery, Jeremy VanHorne, Mandy (Tim) Cole, Evan (Menna) Taylor, and Jodell (Ian) Cooper; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Catherine (Herb) Furr; and many nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Pete and Chuck Wagner.



Esther will be inurned along with Bill in a private ceremony at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
