Dylan Andrew Zehring, 23, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, November 18, 2021 in the Bucyrus Community Hospital ER. He was born in Galion on April 25, 1998 to Josh and Stacey (Brown) Zehring. Dil was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 4 and confined to a wheelchair at 11. He went to Bucyrus Schools where he graduated in 2017 and since “retired” to tend to his die-cast car collection.
He was ornery. He was stubborn. He was determined. Many saw Dil through his physical handicaps, but those who knew him saw an empowered and fun young man who loved experiencing life and doing everything he could for himself. The exceptional care of his mother and a supportive family were the primary thing that kept Dil going and enjoying his life. He loved going to demolition derbies with his brother, car shows with his dad, and shopping every Wednesday with his grandparents for more cars or shirts to add to his collection. He enjoyed several family vacations to Clearwater and was looking forward to visiting Texas soon. Dil rooted for the Cincinnati Bengals and got to go on the field and receive a football from Mohamed Sanu. He loved the outdoors whether fishing or hunting and got to experience a deer hunt in Missouri thanks to the Catch-A-Dream Foundation. “Uncle Dil” also loved watching his nephew Layne grow up.
Dil is survived by his parents, Josh and Stacey Zehring; brother, Tyler Zehring (fiancé, MaKayla Heinze); nephew, Layne Christopher Zehring; grandparents, Dan and Pat Zehring and Tom and Valerie Brown; along with his loving aunts, uncles, and cousins and his beloved dog, Max.
The Zehrings will receive friends on Monday, November 22 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service where Dil’s funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with Gary Schiefer officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made payable to St. John’s UCC or Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dil’s Tribute Wall.
