Douglas R. Sheldon

Doug Sheldon, 71, of Bucyrus, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at home where he was surrounded by loving family.

Doug was born March 24, 1955 in Fremont to the late Elmer J. and Betty I. (George) Sheldon. On January 24, 1981 he married Christine H. Kopp and they shared 38 years of marriage prior to her death on August 30, 2019.

Doug worked for 27 years at Baja Boats until the plant closed and then worked at IB Tech prior to retiring in 2019. He instilled a strong work ethic in those around him and was dedicated to doing the best job possible for both companies.

Doug loved time spent in his garage, simply tinkering with things. He put in a lot of hours working under the hoods of various automobiles and was a gifted woodworker, handcrafting various creations for family. Doug also found enjoyment with cooking and his hot open-faced sandwiches were a family favorite. He was happiest outdoors and their family created many memories while camping at Mohican, their favorite site. He cherished the companionship offered by his dog, Nora, and always enjoyed a nap in his favorite chair.

Doug is survived by children, Raelynn (Artemio) Skelton, Cody Sheldon and Isaac (Nikita) Homan; grandchildren, Starla (Christopher) Johnson, Jeramiah Skelton and Lacee Skelton; great grandchildren, Kayden McMillin, Kodan McKee and Zavior Allen; siblings, Dennis, Tim Jimmy Sheldon and Mary Chaplin along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Betty; wife, Christine and son, Mitchel Homan.

A private gathering was held for Doug’s immediate family. If you would like to remember him with a memorial gift, donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choosing. Gifts can be given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.
