Douglas A. Godwin

Douglas Arthur Godwin entered his eternal Heavenly home following his death on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Altercare of Bucyrus and “nooooooobody” loved his family more than he did.

Doug was born February 14, 1943 in Marshville, NC to the late James A. “Jose” and Kate (Tarleton) Godwin. On Aug 19, 1972 he married Linda Davis and they settled in the Bucyrus area in 1985. This year would have marked their 54th wedding anniversary. He and Linda proudly owned and operated Midwest Furniture from 1987 – 2025 and throughout the 38 years of helping folks with their furniture needs, he was happiest with the friendships that the business afforded him. He was known for his catchphrase “Nooooooobody!”

Doug enjoyed reading his Bible and attending church. Over the years he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, usher, elder and was mostly recently named an elder emeritus at his home church, Journey Life Center. He was also very active in the Bucyrus community and was a member of Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce. He involved himself in anything that brought the community together and was fond of collecting Bucyrus memorabilia.

Doug’s family helped shape who he was, and he looked forward to their family reunions as well as Christmas and family birthdays, where Doug often had his camcorder recording and taking countless pictures of their shared memories. Sports also played a huge role in his life. Doug loved rooting for the Tarheels when they were on the court; the Buckeyes when they took to the football field, watching Bryce Harper play baseball, and following the Little League World Series.

He was a collector of many things but was particularly fond of his signed Hank Aaron ball bat purchased from QVC. When he called in, Doug actually got to speak with Hank himself, and recorded their conversation, which made this collectable extra special. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and more recently liked studying the solar system as well as following eagle cams. Doug loved making others laugh and always had a joke to share.

In addition to Linda, his wife of nearly 54 years and who referred to him as “the best husband that a woman could have”, Doug is survived by children, Steven (Monica) Godwin, Gayle (Josh Buckley) Godwin and Tina (Jason) Martin; paw-paw Doug to his grandchildren, Andrew Godwin, Stephanie Godwin, Kendra Sweeney, Jasmine (Adam) Susey, Eli Martin and Isaac Martin; great grandchildren, Jossee and Paisley; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Godwin and Judy Godwin as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Doug is rejoicing in Heaven with those gone before him, including his son, Gregory S. Godwin; and siblings, Rachel Whitley, Jim, Billy, Cullie, Bobby, Benny “Gene”, and Larry Godwin.

A celebration of life will take place Sunday, August 16 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus. Calling hours will be from 1-2 pm and his memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with his son-in-law, Pastor Jason Martin officiating.
