Dorothy M. Wood

Dorothy Wood, 97, of Bloomville, was called to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 and is now rejoicing with Jesus as well as those called home before her.

She was born in Bucyrus on January 7, 1928 to the late Wesley and Bessie (Durigg) Yaussy and was a 1946 graduate of Bucyrus High School. On August 20, 1950, she married Oliver C. Wood and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1992.

Following high school but prior to her marriage, Dorothy and Oliver were attending a local city-wide tent revival and it was at this event, she was introduced to Christ and became saved. From that day forward, Dorothy professed her love for Christ to anyone she could. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, Bible School, The Joy Club and assisted wherever else needed.

She had a great love for her family and though there were many to love, she gave all of them the personal attention that only she could. She tended to a large garden and will be remembered for her strawberry patch, which helped to provide some fantastic shortcake meals. In addition to loving God and her family, Dorothy enjoyed traveling, wintering in Florida, reading, doing her daily devotions and rarely missed an episode of The Price is Right or Jeopardy.

Dorothy is survived by six children, Joan (Tom) Ritzler, Mark (Nancee) Wood, Karen (Mike) Schafer, Kathy (Mike) Zender, Maryann (Gregg) Griffin and John (Dawn) Wood; grandchildren, Jenni (Shane) Leuthold, Wes (Brandy) Ritzler, Leighton Wood, Justin Wood, Klinton (Kymberlee) Wood, Sarah (Jeremy) Moore, Kevin (Kelly) Schafer, Cory (Monica) Zender, Jeremy (Christy) Zender, Stephen Griffin, Dave (Lindsey) Griffin, Ben Griffin, Timothy (Aimee) Wood and Angie Wood; great grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Great”, Abby (Cyle) Skidmore, Mia Leuthold, Alivia, Aubrey, and Bri Ritzler, Kolton and Kynlee Wood, Wyatt, Ellayna, Eastin, and Keke Rothhaar, Cody (Kelsee) Walker, Kennedy Moore, Austin (Kilee) Adams, Nick Adams, and Owen Adams, Addison Schafer, Cole and Carley Zender, Rosalie Zender, Anna, Scarlett and Willow Griffin, Addison (Matthew) Roth and Lexie Wood; great-great grandchildren, Beau Skidmore, Laisyn Walker and Tate and Beckham Adams; sisters, Marcele Yaussy and Vera Swinehart.
