Dorothy L. Fischer

Dorothy L. Fischer, 90, of Bucyrus died peacefully Monday, November 28, 2016 at Orchard Park Assisted Living where she was being cared for the past several months.

She was born in Bucyrus on April 8, 1926 to the late Adam and Mabel (Perrin) Shiffer. Dot graduated from Bucyrus High in 1944 where she played clarinet in the band, was on the Annual staff, and Student Council. She studied nursing at Case Western before marrying George Fischer, Jr. George had a crush on Dot in high school, but they didn’t start dating until his return from the service and were married January 20, 1946.

Dot stayed at home when her children were very young before working at Timken for three years and then Crawford County Probate Court for over 33 years. She was a charter member of the Modern Mothers Club and member of American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks, and Friends of the Library. She worshiped at Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was in the Naomi Circle and taught Sunday School for 12 years. She was an avid reader, planted gardens, canned countless fruits and vegetables, and did a lot of sewing which she learned from her mother and passed on to her daughter. Mostly, Dot enjoyed being with George whether catching a play at the Little Theatre, enjoying the John Kennedy Band and Community Concerts, or dinner on Fridays, they were seldom seen apart for nearly 71 years of marriage.

In addition to George, Dot is survived by two children, Fred Fischer of Bucyrus and Lynn (Tim) Cook of Delaware; four grandchildren, whose accomplishments she loved to share with others, Jennifer Fischer, Aaron Cook, Nathaniel (Taylor) Cook, and Sarah (Nick) Mroczkowski; one great granddaughter, Cora Mroczkowski; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Keith Clayton.

Dot’s family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Her funeral will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Good Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Renee Ahern officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Donations are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Good Hope Steeple Fund, Bucyrus Little Theatre, or Friends of the Crawford Park District and should be given through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dorothy’s Tribute Wall.
