Dorothy E. Haas

Dorothy Haas, 84, of Bucyrus, died Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Galion Community Hospital surrounded by her family and dear friend Dreama Caudill.

She was born on January 23, 1941 in Crawford County. She was preceded in death by her parents Harley J. and Margaret “Evelyn” (Eckert) Ehrman. Dorothy attended Leesville High School through the 11th grade and graduated in 1959 from the inaugural class at North Robinson High School.

She was a hard-working woman, who never let the grass grow under her feet. During her years in school, she worked at Freezer Fresh in Crestline. Following high School, Dorothy worked in the insurance business before finding her passion of bus driving for the Col. Crawford School District. She made sure students were safely delivered to and from school, sporting events and activities for 29 years and had a positive impact on many young lives throughout her career. Dorothy was an onboard instructor for Col. Crawford's student drivers and new bus drivers.

Dorothy married Roger Haas on June 29, 1984, and throughout their life together, enjoyed many sights while traveling the 50 US states and Canada. She was a member of Windfall Emanuel United Church of Christ where she served as a Deacon, treasurer, and organist. Dorothy was also a member of the Crawford Antique Farm Machinery Association, serving as treasurer and also was a Chairperson for the Annual Antique Tractor Show held at the Crawford County fairgrounds. When her children were young, she drove them to horse shows all throughout Ohio and was a youth advisor for the Galion Boots & Saddle 4-H Club. Dorothy herself was an accomplished equestrian, winning every competition she entered.

At the early age of 12, Dorothy began playing the piano and organ for St. John's Lutheran Church in Leesville. She became quite talented and enjoyed playing for various functions as well as simply playing for her own enjoyment. Another of her favorite pastimes, was supporting Col. Crawford athletics. She poured her heart into every event attended and loved being a longtime member of the “Front Row Gang”. Dorothy was also a Buckeye faithful and loved following both OSU football and basketball. She was always up for a ride in her 1997 red Camero (as long as there was no rain or bad weather in the forecast) and was an accomplished seamstress.

In addition to Roger, her husband of 41 years, Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Lee) Milburn and their daughter Lauren (Thane) Wells and grandchildren Lucy, Claire, Patty, Emily, Mikki and Ethan; her stepchildren, John (Kathy) Haas and their daughter Macy Shipper, and Kirsten Cordisco. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deidre Chapman; stepdaughter, Kathryn Haas; and siblings, Phyllis Ehrman and Delwyn Ehrman.

Dorothy’s family is forever grateful to the entire staff at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation for their excellent care, as well as their unwavering love and compassion shown to Dorothy.
