Doris E. Striker

Doris E. Striker, 89, of Bucyrus died peacefully Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Carlisle Place and joined her husband Ernie who preceded her just three weeks earlier.



She was born December 22, 1928 in Dallas Twp., Crawford County to the late Murray J. Quaintance and Hazel P. (Leonberger) Quaintance Leuthold. She grew up farming with her family and took up sewing and crafting. Doris graduated from Whetstone High School where she played clarinet in the band and married Ernest G. Striker on May 13, 1951, sharing 67 years together. Her father died when she was only 20 and she was very close with her mom’s side of the family, enjoying many Leonberger reunions.



Doris began her work career with GE, then operated her own beauty shop, Debutante Beauty Salon on Prospect Street, for several years before returning to GE and retiring after 30 years. She kept a loving home where she cooked well, sewed straight, grew beautiful flowers, and loved on her children and grandchildren. She kept busy by bicycling most places, playing cards, usually with Betty Reinhard, and with arts and crafts including needlepoint, painting, and photography with many ribbons and rewards earned at the county fair which she always looked forward to along with the Bratwurst Festival. Always at home near water, they spent a lot of time on Lake Erie when in Ohio and wintered in Bradenton, Florida for over 20 years where she enjoyed the beach, swimming, biking, and getting together with friends for cards and dances. Since residing at Carlisle Place and receiving tremendous care, Doris will be remembered for having her baby doll close at hand and never losing her love for ice cream and Pepsi. She was a member of the Bucyrus UMC and former Epworth UMC and Women of the Moose.



Doris is survived by four children, Stephen Striker of Columbus, Jeff (Nancy) Striker of Brandon, Florida, Linda (Greg) Briggs of Bradenton, and Greg (Becky) Striker of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Jonathan (Adrienne) Striker, Peter Striker, Rachel (Dan) Gliewe, Gretchen (Sam) Hart, Beau Briggs (Melissa), Randy Striker, Kristy (Matt) Long, and Dallas Holbrook; great grandchildren, Amelia, Kira, Braylen, Leela, Kaylee, Elijah, Ellie, and Drake; step siblings, Ted Leuthold, Dick (Karen) Leuthold, and Virginia Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Marva) Quaintance; stepfather, Arthur Leuthold, and sister-in-law, Joyce Leuthold.



Funeral services will be held at Wise Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 22 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10:30 am – 12:50 pm.



In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made payable to Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Doris’ Tribute Wall.
