Dolores M. Brown

Dolores Marcile Brown, 91, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully early Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Altercare of Bucyrus.

She was born July 17, 1931 in Holmes Twp. Crawford County to the late Perry W. and Florence C. (Green) Miller. Dolores was a 1949 graduate of Holmes Liberty High School and on May 30, 1953, married Donald M. Brown who she met through church. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2008.

Dolores spent 15 years working at Sears as a Credit Clerk before becoming the Secretary at the former Holtshouse/Zahn Plumbing and Heating, currently Kinn Brothers, and retired in 1993.

She enjoyed time spent with family and whenever it involved her preparing a meal, everyone was in for a treat. Tuesdays were reserved for family “playdates”, which gave her opportunities to smile and create memories with her grandchildren. Dolores spent a lot of hours working in her garden and canned much of what she grew. She and Don traveled many Ohio roads in search of covered bridges and in more recent years, genealogy has become her favorite pastime.

Dolores enjoyed worshipping at Bucyrus Nazarene Church; was a member of the Crawford County Genealogical Society; Bucyrus Historical Society, the Ohio Historic Bridge Association and had quite the collection of salt and pepper shakers.

She is survived by children, Cheryl (James) Collene and Kenneth (Brenda Mollenkopf) Brown; grandchildren, Benjamin (Jennifer) Collene, Holly Collene, Patrick (Eunice) Collene, Arron (Shara) Collene and Michaeline (James) Stiner; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Marlene (Clair) Saltzman, Gladys (Kenneth) Wolf, Norma “Jane” Miller, Dale (Donna) Miller, Marvin Miller, and Darle (Diana) Miller; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen Miller, Norman (Lena) Brown, Jane Rader, Barbara (Chuck) Pfahler and Ron (Cathy) Brown as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by siblings, Wilma (Marvin) Swart, Sharon Young, Evelyn Miller and Lyle Miller; sisters-in-law, Betty Miller and Janet Brown along with a brother-in-law, Dick Rader.

Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 am Tuesday, June 20 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held that day at 11:00 am with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Dolores will be laid to rest in Brokensword Cemetery.

If desired, donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Nazarene Church or Crawford County Council on Aging. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her tribute wall.
