Dennis Allan Seville, 66, died Monday, January 14, 2019 at his home following an apparent heart attack.
He was born November 22, 1952 in Bucyrus to the late Donald and Bonnie (Keen) Seville and was a 1971 graduate of Bucyrus High School. Dennis also completed his associate degree in mechanical drafting in 1982 from Marion Technical College. In July of 1971, he enlisted with the US Air Force and served until 1975 where he was stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas.
On August 19, 1972, Dennis married Connie L. Oberlander whom he’d met while in high school and she survives. Following his time in the Air Force, they moved back to Bucyrus and Dennis worked various jobs including construction, Soil and Water District, and at Erie Supply before joining the Ohio Air National Guard in the 1980s. This led to a fulltime job at the 179th Airlift Wing at Mansfield Lahm ANG Base where he retired from in 2006. He traveled many places while in the guard with his favorites being Alaska and Antarctica.
Dennis liked to help others and he always had a “next project” awaiting his skills. He was a member of the Evangelical Faith Fellowship, Gideons International, Soil and Water Conservation District, NRA, and American Legion Post 405.
He and Connie enjoyed sightseeing and their travels shared over the years. A favorite of theirs was Hawaii. Dennis was introduced to the craft of making maple syrup, a hobby he’s enjoyed for the past few years, and he also liked Geocaching. Dennis often worked on projects with his son in their basement or the “shop,” and for relaxation he could be found watching TV or movies with his daughter. When his grandchildren were involved in activities, he was there for support and rarely missed an opportunity to gather with classmates for lunch and catch up.
In addition to Connie, his wife of 46 years, Dennis is survived by two children, Kate Seville of rural Bucyrus and Nick (Becky) Seville of Lykens; five grandchildren, Jovey, Brenna, Joseph, Sadie, and Micah as well as one unborn grandson on the way. He is also survived by a sister, Charlene (George) Albu; sisters-in-law, Doris (Dale) Bloomfield, Vivian Shumaker, and Nancy (Charlie) Heinlen; step mother-in-law, Clara Oberlander; step siblings-in-law, Sue Burkhart, Paula (Mike) Ridgeway, and Sydney (Nancy) Maples; as well as other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Phyllis Oberlander and Richard Oberlander; brother-in-law, Bob Shumaker; and a step brother-in-law, Bob Burkhart.
His family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Thursday, January 17 at Wise Funeral Service. His funeral will begin at 10:30 am Friday at Evangelical Faith Fellowship, 940 New Washington Rd, Bloomville, OH 44818 with Pastor Tim Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the 179th Airlift Wing Honor Guard.
Donations can be made payable to Gideons International or to the Evangelical Faith Fellowship. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home or at the church on the morning of service.
