David E. Moore

David E. Moore, 80, of Galion died naturally, yet unexpectedly in his home on Friday, May 1, 2020.

He was born February 18, 1940 in Claibourne Twp, Union County to the late Harry E. and Wilda G. (Reed) Moore. David graduated in 1958 from Mt. Zion High School in Crawford County where he was active in music, FFA, and basketball. He continued playing recreational basketball into adulthood at the Bucyrus Armory and enjoyed watching NBA games.

Dave was very generous and always willing to put others first. A “jack of all trades,” he was willing to try anything, especially if it meant helping someone. Always a kid at heart, David looked forward to family dinners on Sundays, and dearly loved visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He may best be remembered for his love of model trains. To say he was consumed is an understatement. He was the current President of the Bucyrus Model Railroad Association, member of Friends of the Big Four in Galion and B&O Historical Society, and helped organize the BMRA Train Show & Swap Meet.

David worked as a machinist at the Bucyrus GE Plant and was active in IUE-CWA 84704. He also operated D&D Construction where he did excavation work. Dave grew up in the Baptist faith and was formerly active in Whetstone Baptist Church where he was a deacon and song leader. A little over 10 years ago, he converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the Galion LDS Branch. He also played sousaphone in the former Bucyrus City Band.

David is survived by children, Doug (Pam) Moore and Dr. Michelle (Larry) Fruth; grandchildren, Brett (Ashley) Fruth, Nicholas (Markie) Fruth, and Jason Cantrell; great grandchildren, Lydia, Finn, Cali, Aubrey, and Colt; brother, Don (Mary) Moore; and sisters, Wilma Oberdier and Sue Flint. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant daughter, Stephanie; granddaughter, Lindsay Cantrell; and brothers, Ralph and Larry Moore.

A service celebrating David’s life is pending. He will be laid to rest privately in Crawford County Memory Gardens.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers are encouraged to be made payable to Bucyrus Model Railroad Association and given through Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories and photos can be shared on David’s Tribute Wall.
