Dale K. Brause

Dale K. Brause, 92, of rural Sycamore died unexpectedly in the Bucyrus Community Hospital ER on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

He and his twin sister were born September 1, 1929 to the late Clarence A. and Anna M. (Schimpf) Brause. He grew up on the family farm and went to Lykens School where he played basketball and graduated in 1947. He then married his soulmate, Marcelle M. Wood, on November 20, 1949. They raised their family and farmed together until her death on February 24, 1985.

Dale will be remembered for his kindness and work ethic. A lifelong farmer, he would be up early to milk cows, work all day, and then enjoy coon hunting at nightfall. Dale was once asked what to attribute his good health and longevity to and he said it was because he kept moving and cut a lot of firewood. At home, he read a lot of farm magazines and the daily paper and enjoyed following the Indians, Browns, and OSU football and basketball. He was a strong supporter of agriculture education, sponsoring fair trophies and projects and offering his farm for FFA students to practice soil testing on. He raised several successful coon dogs over the years and enjoyed the company of Minnie, a stray that found a home on his farm, for the past six years. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Chatfield.

Dale is survived by sons, Kim (Pura) Brause and Kenn Brause; his grandson, whom he raised, Lee (Sandra) Koehler; great grandson, Gavin Koehler; sister, Irene Hieber; and many extended family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dale was preceded in death by daughter, Vicki Agin; brothers, Donald and Harlan Brause; and twin sister, Doris Honsberger.

Services will take place on Tuesday, February 22 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where family will receive friends from 4-5:55 pm and his funeral will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Kevin Mohr officiating. He will be laid to rest privately next to Marcelle in Brokensword Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Dale can be made payable to Lykens Twp. VFD or Wynford FFA and given at the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on his Tribute Wall.
