D. Earl Lewis

D. Earl Lewis, 74, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, July, 3, 2011 at his residence following a battle with cancer.

He was born April 9, 1937 in Garrison, Kentucky to the late Bliss and Della Mae (Hicks) Lewis. He attended school in Bucyrus until joining the US Navy and served from 1954 – 1958. One of Earl's greatest accomplishments in life was that he helped build the first airstrip in Antarctica while in the Navy.

Following his service time, Earl returned to Bucyrus and married Etta Crisinger who preceded him in death in 1983. In 1989 he married Euwilda J. Roberts who survives. Earl worked various jobs but retired from Swan Rubber in 1997.

Earl was caring and generous man who enjoyed helping others when there was a need. He and Euwilda enjoyed traveling when they got the chance and Earl loved to cook. He previously was a member of Freewill Baptist Church where he sang in a quartet and most recently he attended the Bucyrus Nazarene Church.

In addition to the one Earl adored, he is survived by a daughter, Teresa Miller of Maryland; two step-sons, Lee and Curtis; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Lewis, John (Trudy) Lewis and Darrell (Carolyn) Lewis all of Bucyrus as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Everette Lewis and three sisters, Ruth Lewis, Wilda Lawhun and Joanne Mayes.

Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 at Wise Funeral Service, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Church of the Nazarene; American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
