Charles A. Shultz, 83, died peacefully Saturday, May 10, 2025 at his home under the care of his family and Avita Hospice.
He was born September 26, 1941 in Bucyrus to the late Victor and Helen (Hildebrand) Shultz. Chuck played football and baseball for Bucyrus High School and graduated in 1960. He played one year of football for Otero College in La Junta, Colorado before returning to Bucyrus. He first worked at GE and then went on to work at The Timken Co. where he retired after 35 years. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. He served in the Honor Guard performing funeral honors. While at Timken, Chuck met the former Phyllis A. Rinehart and they were married on June 2, 1967. Chuck was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1968.
Chuck will be remembered for his love of family, being on outdoorsman, his sense of humor, and arriving early. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a charter member and lifetime board member of the Crawford County Conservation League. He was an excellent trap and sporting clay shooter. He also was an avid bowler in years past and enjoyed camping. Chuck and Phyllis took immaculate care of their country home and their Lake Erie getaway. Beautiful gardens and lawns were well taken care of and they also had memorable trips to Northern Michigan, Tennessee, and Amish Country.
Chuck is survived by his bride of 57 years, Phyllis Shultz; children, Tim (Janet) Shultz, Lynn Thatcher, and Vicki (Roger) Kehres; grandchildren, Asheley (Jonathan) Fuson, Chase Radebaugh, Elijah (Sydney) Shultz, Andrew (Danielle) Stinehelfer, Issac Kehres, Kasey (Joe) Johnson, and Hayden Kehres; and his little sister, Peggy Shultz Graham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stillborn brother and infant brother, Larry Nial Shultz.
Services for Chuck will be held on Saturday, May 17 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Robinson where he was a member. Family will receive friends from 2-3:25 pm. At 3:30 pm, Military Rites will be performed by the US Army Honor Guard followed by his memorial service with Pastor Shawn Schneider officiating.
Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Avita Hospice and given the day of the service or taken to Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Chuck’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
