Charlene K. Schifer

Charlene K. Schifer, 77, died peacefully, Monday, March 28, 2016 at her residence, the place where she had the joy of spending time with her children and grandchildren over Easter weekend.

Charlene was born October 26, 1938 to the late Walter and Carrie (Sperow) Feurer. She was a graduate of North Robinson High School and on June 28, 1958, married David A. Schifer, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 13, 2007.

Charlene often put the needs of others ahead of her own, especially her children and husband whom she cared for as a homemaker. She also spent 18 years working at GE before retiring in 1999. Charlene was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church where she was active in various committees. She delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the information desk at both the hospital and courthouse.

As soon as Dave Sr. got off work for the weekend, camping is what the Schifer family did for enjoyment and relaxation. She loved gathering with family for any holiday and she was often found at events involving her grandchildren. For many years, Charlene was active in various leadership roles in scouting and she spent a good amount of time working in her flower and vegetable gardens over the years.

She is survived by five children, David Schifer, Jr. of Bucyrus, Vicki (Mike) Phillips of Port Clinton, Mitchell (Lauri) Schifer of Galion, Tamera Schifer, and Todd Schifer both of Bucyrus; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald Feurer and Clark Feurer.

Charlene was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lisa; four brothers, Donald, Dwight, David, and Gary Feurer; two sisters, Joyce Swihart and Gloria Myers; and a great-grandson.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8 in Oakwood Cemetery with Gene Luidhart, S.A.M. officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery where signage will lead to her gravesite.

Memorial contributions may be given to Good Hope Lutheran Church; HomeCare Matters; or the Crawford County Council on Aging. These gifts can be made payable to the organization and given through the Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
