Cecil E. Woodruff

Cecil Edgar Woodruff, 99, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 26, 1926 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Mack and Minnie (Winebarger) Woodruff and attended Mount Pleasant (NC) Schools. Cecil married Christine Spears on June 7, 1953 and they made their way to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for 30 years and retired from Ford Motor Company. Cecil and Christine moved to Bucyrus in 2006.

Cecil will be remembered as a man of God who loved to joke and laugh. He dearly loved his wife and family and enjoyed the outdoors as an avid fisherman, fishing for salmon, walleye and perch, and enjoyed hunting. He also played the guitar and listened to bluegrass music. He fostered his faith in Christ as a devoted member of Bedford Assembly of God where he served on the board, as an usher and deacon, and teacher in the Royal Ranger program. After moving to Bucyrus, he and Christine attended the Bucyrus Nazarene Church.

Cecil is survived by his bride of 72 years, Christine Woodruff; daughters, Jo Ann (Tom) Smith, Lois (Frank) Martin, Becky (Mike) Williamson, and Rachel (John) Wyatt; grandchildren, Nick Woodruff, Sara Woodruff, Craig Smith, Cristi Smith, Michael Smith, Thomas Smith, Caitlin Martin-Wagar, Melia Williamson, Mikayla Williamson, Jacob Woodruff, and Nathan Dudte; seven great grandchildren; and his sister, Marie “DeeDee” Church.

In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his son, Sammie Woodruff and siblings, Arthur Woodruff, Esther Byers, Edith Wells, Mary Kilby, Manies Woodruff, Mozel Griffith, and Alfred Woodruff.

All services will take place on what would have been Cecil and Christine’s 72nd wedding anniversary, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. Family will receive friends from 11-11:55 am and the funeral will begin at 12 Noon with dear friend, Don Hartwell and pastor, Ray LaSalle officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memories and photos can be shared on the guestbook of Cecil’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
