Carmella Heinlen Tupps

Carmella H. Tupps, 86, of Bucyrus died Friday, February 11, 2011 at The Inn at Orchard Park.

She was born October 26, 1924 the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mabel Heinlen. Carmella graduated from Mt. Zion High School and on July 29, 1945 she married Emmett Tupps who preceded her in death in 1994.

Carmella worked at General Electric in the early 1950's and a few years later had enrolled in the Teacher Cadet Training Program at Bowling Green State University to become a teacher. She completed the program and started teaching 3rd grade at Whetstone School in the late 1950's. Carmella also received her masters degree from Bowling Green. She retired after 31 years with the Col. Crawford School District, teaching elementary grades and special education at the junior high.

Carmella was a life member of the Ohio Education Association; a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church ; the Crawford County Retired Teachers; the Crawford County Farm Bureau and the Mt. Zion Grange.

She is survived by two children, Larry (Julie) Tupps and Emmett Jr. (Jeanine) Tupps both of Bucyrus; three grandsons, Jarrod (Renee) Tupps of Bucyrus, Matthew Tupps of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Tony Tupps of Lima, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carmella is preceded in death by a sister, Florence Heinlen Balliet of Galion.

Carmella traveled extensively and enjoyed square dancing.

Friends may call from 3 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 15 at Wise Funeral Service where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Lee Peters officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mt. Zion UMC and given through the funeral home.
