Butch Meyers, 70, died Friday, October 10, 2025 at home under the care of his family and Avita Hospice after ten years of failing health.
He was born in Crestline on March 9, 1955 to the late John Henry Meyers Jr. and Ruth June (Dickson) Meyers and they named him John Paul Meyers, but he has always been known as Butch. Shortly after graduating from Crestline High School in 1972, Butch began working for the railroad. Conrail became Norfolk-Southern from which he retired as a track maintenance supervisor. He married Michele Mathis on June 16, 2007.
Butch was the life of every party he threw or attended. He loved to ride his Harley-Davidson and was an avid golfer. He also drove several red trucks over the years and took great care of his vehicles. He will be remembered for his generous and giving nature, taking care of everyone he loved. He was a member of Moose Lodge #669, Sons of the AmVets, and Sons of the American Legion. At home, he saw that things were fixed with the help of his neighbor and always had the television on. He took meticulous care of his lawn and was proud it was “the only house on the road with no dandelions.” He rooted for the Buckeyes and Broncos and loved watching NASCAR races. He and Michele had the opportunity to travel to many destinations and lots of pictures were taken. Putting away his golf clubs and selling his bike after he became ill were hard on Butch, but he gave cancer a good fight with the friendship, help, advice, and care of Dr. Rob Wisner and his staff.
Butch is survived by wife, Michele Meyers; daughters, Josie (Jeff) Benedict, Angie (Rodney) Delaney, Brittany (Donavan) Harper, and Chelsea (Austin) Edgell; grandchildren, Jeffrey Benedict, Courtney Meyer, Kirsten Geist, Kyle Benedict, Zach Delaney, Weston Delaney, Aubree Delaney, Owen Delaney, Harmonee Harper, Baelyn Harper, Benson Harper, and one expected; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Deborah (Bruce) Page, Kathy Graves, Pam (Duane) Carey, and Scott Meyers; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and devoted caregiver, Pauline Mathis and sister-in-law, Monica (Mike) Robinette.
Family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Tuesday, October 14 from 12 Noon – 2 pm. Butch will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery.
