Bonnie J. Carpenter

Bonnie Jean Carpenter, 69, of Sulphur Springs died early Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after recent health issues.



She was born September 20, 1947 to the late Elwood and Martha (Yost) Stiefel and grew up in Sulphur Springs where she attended school and graduated from Col. Crawford in 1965. That summer, she married Zoney Carpenter with whom she shared many family get-togethers and countless garage sale adventures until his death in October 2014.



Bonnie will be remembered as the neighborhood mom whose home welcomed everyone with a cold popsicle. She was a homemaker, taxi service, cook, and softball scorekeeper for her children. Though a bit of a homebody where she enjoyed a cold Coke, challenging crossword, and helping Jim Rockford and Perry Mason solve mysteries; she enjoyed hitting the road for a great garage sale or a lively Bingo game. When area girls needed a softball league instead of baseball, she helped Tom and Maxine Fellows and others start the Colonel Crawford Girls Youth Summer Softball Program in 1983. All animals, especially cats, had a special place at Bonnie’s home as well.



Bonnie is survived by three children, Nicki (Ken) Jones of LaRue, Matthew Carpenter of Sulphur Springs, and Luke Carpenter (Jessica Wade) of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Liberty Carpenter, Brandon Wade and Kwanita Whitehair; siblings, Judy Slater and John (Penny) Stiefel, both of Bucyrus, along with many nieces and nephews.



In addition to her parents and husband of 49 years, she was preceded in death by two children, William Gail Carpenter and Lisa Carpenter.



Bonnie’s family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where her funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 am with Pastor Carl Angel officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
