Bonnie S. Allen

Bonita Sue “Bonnie” Allen, 83, of Bucyrus, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in the presence of loved ones.

Bonnie was born in Bucyrus on September 9, 1941 to the late Archie B. and Dorothy N. (Meyers) Cover. She graduated from Mt. Zion High School where she was a cheerleader and also active in both choir and band. On April 23, 1960, in Epworth United Methodist Church, she married Lee W. Allen and he survives.

Work took Bonnie and Lee from Bucyrus, to Mansfield, Sylvania, Westlake, Powell and back home in 2002. She prided herself for the love and care shown to her family, and anyone who knew Bonnie, truly considered her, “an all-American homemaker.” She also spent several years working at Mechanics Bank in Mansfield as well as at the Toledo Preschool, where she had a great impact on many young lives. She and Lee attended United Methodist Churches wherever they lived and were currently members of Bucyrus UMC. Bonnie was formerly a Brownie and Girl Scouts leader; volunteer at the Bucyrus Hospital Gift Shop for 21 years; a current Hospital Auxiliary member and spent 12 years volunteering at the Crawford County Court House.

She was happiest around family and cherished many memories formed through years of camping trips and other travels, car rides, or simply, anytime they gathered for holiday or special events. She and Lee were blessed to have safely traveled many roads throughout the surrounding states on their BMW motorcycle, taking in some beautiful sites while riding with friends. Bonnie had a knack for decorating and with her personal touches, turned all their houses into homes. She enjoyed crocheting and made dozens of afghan blankets for newborns through Avita Hospital as well as for family and friends at graduation and other personal milestones. Bonnie also enjoyed reading and will certainly be remembered for her handmade cards which helped to brighten one’s special day.

In addition to Lee, her husband of 65 years, Bonnie is survived by children, Shawn (Kathy) Allen, Todd (Ellen) Allen, and Kellee (Bill) Wisenbarger; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; three siblings, Ronald (Nancy) Cover, Allen (Judy) Cover; sister-in-law, Pauline (Tim) Whisler as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Colton Viars and an infant brother, Russell Cover.

Her family will receive friends from 10 – 11:55 am on Tuesday, July 15 at Wise Funeral Service, immediately followed by her memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm with Pastor Matt Anderson officiating. Bonnie will be privately inurned in Oakwood Cemetery.

If desired, donations can be made payable to Bucyrus UMC (applied to youth programs) or to Heartland Hospice. These gifts will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.
