Bob Nigh

Bob Nigh, 72, died unexpectedly of natural causes in the Bucyrus Hospital ER on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

He was born in Bucyrus on September 18, 1949, to the late L.R. “Bob” and Naomi (Knecht) Nigh. Bob grew up around the family business and began working with his dad at age 12 for Bob Nigh Builders and continued to do so with his family under the names of Bob Nigh and Sons Builders and, most recently, Nigh Builders, where he worked until his passing in partnership with his brother Todd and their trusted employee of over 30 years, Ben Lucius. He graduated from Wynford High School in1967 where he played football and basketball for the Royals. He married his high school sweetheart, Julie Johnson, on July 26,1969, and they devoted themselves to their family, church, business, and community.

Bob was hard working and he took particular pride in seeing progress every day. He was well-known for his knowledge and expertise and for being meticulous in his craftsmanship. He always gave his best and encouraged the same from his family and coworkers. During his career, Nigh Builders built over 250 custom homes, in addition to countless additions and remodels. Bob never hesitated to offer advice when asked and was considered a mentor by many. He was always dependable and available for others and was willing to go out of his way to help anyone. Outside of work, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and loved watching and listening to sports, especially the Royals, Buckeyes, and Indians.

Bob was active in service throughout his life. He served in the Air National Guard from 1969 to 1977. He was a devoted member of the Holmes Twp. Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years. He was a trustee of the former Harmony United Methodist Church and, most recently, served in the same capacity for the Bucyrus United Methodist Church.

Bob dearly loved his family and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor to many. Bob is survived by his bride of 52 years, Julie Nigh; sons, Andy (Amy) Nigh and Joe (Jennica) Nigh; grandchildren, Drew, Emma, Jackson, and Jace; sister, Sally Johnson; brothers, Randy (Cindi) Nigh and Todd (Rita) Nigh; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Dr. Mike Johnson.

They will receive friends on Tuesday, November 23 from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday, November 24, from 12-12:45 pm. Funeral services will be held immediately after, at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Mike Corwin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
