Beverly Grace Clark

Beverly G. Clark, 88, died Thursday, August 17, 2023 at home after two years of failing health.

She was born June 27, 1935 in Crawford County to the late Roy D. and Beulah F. (Cress) Johnson. She was the oldest of five, grew up as a tomboy on the family farm in Whetstone Twp., and attended Whetstone School. The Johnsons were hard working, fun, ornery, and loved to pick on each other. Bev met a “city boy” named Donald Clark when he and her cousin were hunting on the farm. They were married October 24, 1953 and had a beautiful life and family built on love, partnership, and faith. Outside the home, Bev worked most of her career in the craft department at Struble’s Drug Store. She also waited tables at Perkins and L&K and worked for Westinghouse and Marion General Hospital.

Bev’s faith was strong, and she was a devoted member of the Bucyrus Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she helped establish and run the Dorcas Ministry. Family was her first priority as she would drop whatever she was doing to help them. She and Don opened their home to many people from near and far who became extended family. Bev was very crafty with potholders being her most recent projects. She also collected countless birdhouses to place in and around her home where she gave special attention to her flower beds. When not at home or work, she and Don loved camping and Bev also frequented secondhand stores and garage sales looking for bargains and treasures.

Bev is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Donald W. Clark; children, Darlene (Merle) Schoonard, Brenda (Rodney) Herra, Tammy Clark, and David (Dawn) Clark; grandchildren, William Schoonard, Timothy (Donna) Schoonard, Rebecca Herra, Rodney (Jenifer) Herra Jr., Brent Clark, Clint Clark, and Kaylee Clark; great grandchildren, Annabelle (Marshall) McMillen, Eliyana Herra, and Ellis McGathey; sister, Connie (Ron) Fahl; sisters-in-law, Nancy Johnson and Ellen Johnson; and extended family, Lourdes Schoonard, Heisey Shrew, Allen Samuel, Julius Johnson, and Nerilla Loeak.

In addition to her parents, Bev was preceded in death by twin brothers, Ray and Sam Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Joan (Orval) Burky; and extended family, Neree Inok.

The Clark family will receive friends on Sunday, August 20 from 2-5 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus, where her funeral will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm with Pastor Patrick Mazani officiating. Burial will follow in Sixteen Cemetery (Whetstone Twp.).

Memorial donations can be made payable to Bucyrus Seventh-Day Adventist Church and given through the funeral home. Memories and photos are encouraged to be shared on Bev’s Tribute Wall.
