Betty Jean Rex

Betty Jean Rex, 99, of Bucyrus passed peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

She was born September 2, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Robert J. and Minnie E. (Nickler) Fegley. She graduated from Bucyrus High School and on December 21, 1947, married Morris A. Rex who preceded her in death on March 13, 1984. Betty worked in quality control at Timken and retired after 38 years of employment.

Betty liked animals of all kinds and enjoyed the companionship their pets dogs offered over the years. She and her family loved showing horses and there were many weekends spent traveling to neighboring states for shows. They worked hard at caring for and training them, and their efforts were rewarded with many prizes over the years. Betty was also considered a sports fanatic. For many years, she attended OSU Football games in person, but as the TV screens became larger and she kept on aging, the thought of rooting for her Buckeyes from the comfort of her home soon became her thing to do. She not only followed the Buckeyes, but also enjoyed cheering for the Browns, Indians and watching college basketball. She printed off player rosters, stats sheets, and schedules as to plan her upcoming weeks and when one of her teams took to the field or court, it was best not to interrupt her.

Betty saw to it that her family was properly cared for and made sure they were served a hearty meal every evening. She enjoyed it when they gathered for the holidays and for relaxation, Betty would sit by her window and watch the various birds eat what they were fed. She also liked reading good mysteries and putting together puzzles.

Those good memories will be missed by her three children, Linda McKee, Penny Blankenship and Daniel Rex; grandchildren, Cassandra McKee, Sean Rex, Jeannie Blankenship, Amanda (Herbert) Poland, Joe (Amanda) Rex, Erica (Andy) Durham, and Josh Rex; great grandchildren, Cameil Thompson, Dustine (Ryan) Holup, Michael Blankenship, Wesley Perdue, Karli Frizzell, Jake Durham, Ayden Durham, Paige Rex, Thomas “T.J.” Rex, Alex Rex, Christopher Poland, Jonathan Poland, and Nicholas Poland; great-great grandchildren, Clark, Harvey, Darla, Warren, Oscar and Michael Jr.; as well as her sister, Susan “Susie” Wells and a grandson-in-law, Duane Perdue.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by a granddaughter. April Perdue; sister, Dorothy Stacie and a son-in-law, Eugene Blankenship.

Betty will be privately laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made payable to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service and online memories are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook at www.wisefuneral.com.
