Barney Edgington

Byron R. Edgington, better known as Barney, 79, of Bucyrus “slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God” on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at his home after a series of heart issues.

Barney was born in Bucyrus March 16, 1936 to the late Clarence “Snapper” and Alice (Frank) Edgington. He played baseball at Nevada High School and upon graduation in 1954, honorably served his country in the US Army. After service, he moved home and began employment at The Timken Co., giving them 40 years of service. On the advice of a fellow employee, Barney asked a lovely coworker, Nancy Scheerer on a date which led to over 57 years of wedded bliss.

During his life, Barney enjoyed antiques, cars, old clocks and pocket watches, and woodworking, especially with Ron and Richard. Well known throughout the community, he was a Mason, Shriner, and Legionnaire and worshiped at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

His heart and soul was his family. Barney is survived by his wife, Nancy; two children, Kellie and Richard who gave him his greatest joy: four grandkids, Ashley, Michael, Ethan, and Nicholas. Also surviving are his sisters, Marie Widman and Nola Fry and sister-in-law, Jean Edgington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert and sister, Mildred Conat.

Barney’s family will receive friends on Sunday, February 28 from 2-5 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where a Masonic service will be observed at 5:00. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastors Don L. Neumann and Mike Greenler officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the US Army and American Legion Honor Guards.

Byron, Barney, Dad, Brother (or whatever name you knew him by) loved and continues to love us all and rests in peace in Heaven. Nancy has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Memories and photos can be shared on Barney’s Tribute Wall.
