Arleta M. Phenicie, 76, of Bucyrus died peacefully Sunday morning, December 11, 2016.
She was born in Bucyrus May 22, 1940, the second daughter of the late Marvin and Barbara (Crall) Linn. Arleta was raised on the Linn family farm in Holmes Twp. and graduated from Holmes Liberty in 1958. She married Norman J. Phenicie, whom she met at Freddie’s Restaurant, on June 9, 1962 sharing nearly 45 years of marriage until his death on February 23, 2007.
Arleta worked for The Timken Co. in Bucyrus for 40 years as an inspector. After retirement, she stayed busy working at Speedway, The Emporium, YMCA, and finally volunteering with TRIAD at the Crawford County Courthouse. She and Norman enjoyed boating on Lake Erie and rode snowmobiles in Michigan in the winter.
She will be remembered as a humble, kind, and compassionate woman whose love for family and friends was shared in a number of ways. She was a great cook and baker who was always aware of the latest snacks to share. Her candies and cutout cookies will certainly be missed this Christmas. Arleta was a lifelong and faithful member of Scioto United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Eastern Star.
Arleta is survived by three sisters, Suzanne Hawkins, Margaret (Dale) Hoyles, and Lois (Jim) Heid; nephews and nieces, Mark, Brad (Sue), and Chris (Amy) Hawkins, Todd (Sheila), Ty (Holli), and Troy Hoyles, Michelle (Mike) Buchta, Michael (Jaime) Heid, and Angie (Tim) Streeter, Jeff (Patty) Thompson, and Molli Carey; many great nieces and nephews, including Vanessa Shutler who spent a lot of time at Aunt Leta’s house; and her extended family and cousins whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arleta was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Dick Hawkins and her dear friend, Chuck Collene.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 14 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Scioto UMC with Pastor Julie Fairchild officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Contributions are suggested to go to Scioto UMC and can be sent to the funeral home. Memories can be shared on Arleta’s Tribute Wall.
