Ann Jo Wagner

Ann Jo Purdy Wagner, 84, died peacefully on April 29, 2026, surrounded by family.

She was born in Celina, Ohio on December 7, 1941 to Rosemary and Clarence Purdy. After the family moved to Bucyrus, Jo graduated from Mt. Zion High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University. She later completed her master’s degree in education from The Ohio State University.

Jo spent most of her career working for Ohio State as an Academic Advisor. Late in her career, she took several trips abroad with students, which she dearly loved. She lived on Neil Avenue in Columbus and had a vibrant social life with wonderful neighbors who became her family. She was a passionate performer who loved to be onstage and had a beautiful voice. As a loyal friend recounts, she will be remembered for dancing on tables, singing vaudeville tunes.

Jo was an intentional traveler who loved to learn about new cultures and always had an interest in people. She loved to explore new places with her sister, Jackie Neff and brother-in-law, Richard Neff and especially loved to visit their home in California.

Jo maintained many close relationships with friends from Bucyrus through the end of her life, along with countless other places where she had left her mark. She was a fierce defender of liberal ideals and was always up for a political discussion; but most of all, Jo was a dedicated mother who always made sure her family was cared for.

Jo is survived by her children, Amie Barnard and Brian Wead; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Christian, Collin, Alexandra, Hayden, Megan and Madison; great grandchildren, Connor, William, Rose, Willow, Braelyn and Zoey; sister, Jackie Neff and brother-in-law, Richard Neff; and nephews, Mitch and Brady Neff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemary and Clarence Purdy; brother, William Purdy; and her husband, Joe Wagner.

Family will gather to celebrate a life well lived and Jo will be laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery in Bucyrus with her parents, brother, and husband. She will forever be missed by those who loved her. Memories are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.
