Allen K. Bower

Allen K. Bower, age 85, of rural Bucyrus, died on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at the Ontario Estates Assisted Living Facility. He had been a resident there for 15 months. He had been seriously ill for the last several days.

Allen was born on June 12, 1940 in Bucyrus to the late Alton W. and Janet E. (Miller) Bower. On June 19, 1960, he married June M. Wingert who preceded him in death on October 5, 2025.

Surviving him are son, Ronald Bower of rural Bucyrus; daughters, Janis (John) Meter of Murray, KY and Susan (Joe) Curatti of rural Crestline; seven grandchildren, Ashley Wise, Andrew Worden, Ben Meter, Bonnie Grosz, Joseph Meter, Donna Peppers, and Tami Meter; two great grandchildren, Olivia Peppers and Stanley Grosz; and three siblings, Mary Rees, Sylvia (Larry) Belt and Becky (John) Witter.

Allen graduated from Whetstone High School in 1958. He then was a farmer and worked at local factories. After receiving his Ordination to the Ministry, he and his wife served in Christian Missionary Service for 34 years; serving in Washington DC, Indiana and Texas. Allen retired in 2008 and returned to rural Bucyrus.

Allen was an active and longtime member of the Whetstone Baptist Church, serving in many capacities and activities within the church.

At home, Allen enjoyed working with wood and steel. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and being with his dog and cats.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 9 at Whetstone Cemetery in Whetstone Twp. of Crawford County, Ohio. Officiating the service will be his son-in-law, Joe Curatti and Pastor Larry Oxendine.

Donations can be made payable to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.

Allen’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to both the staff at Ontario Estates Senior Living and Southern Care Hospice for their care provided to Allen during his time in their care.
