Allan D. Miller, better known as Bud, 82, died peacefully Friday, January 16, 2026 at his home under the care of his family who are grateful to all the family and friends who have helped during this difficult time of failing health.
He was born September 21, 1943 to the late Daniel and Irene (Spurgeon) Miller and raised near Sulphur Springs. Bud and his entire family loved sports, and he played ball for the Sulphur Springs Yellow Jackets and was the first basketball MVP for Colonel Crawford in 1961. Bud met his sweetheart, Sharon L. Francis, when her family moved to Sulphur Springs for her 9th grade year. He said he “hit the lottery” by getting to be with her. After graduating in 1961, Bud and Sharon were married June 30, 1962. Bud went to work for PPG in Crestline for over 40 years where he was a gifted forklift driver and loved the claim of being a two-time tow motor rodeo champion.
Outside of his work, Bud loved to fish and he loved baseball. He played ball well into adulthood and was still referred to as “coach” by countless men who had the privilege of being coached as youngsters in Little League by Bud. His competitive nature carried into everything including many spirited games of playing cards. Bud and Sharon were often seen dining out and usually included Bud striking up a conversation with an old friend about the glory days of their youth. As he grew older, Bud was often on his porch catching up with those driving or walking by and he cherished time with his granddaughter. Bud was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church and Moose Lodge #669.
Bud is survived by his bride of 63 years, Sharon L. Miller; sons, Troy Miller and Chadd Miller; granddaughter, Samantha Miller; brothers, Terry (Maxine) Miller, Larry Miller (Fran), and Brownie Miller (Laveda); and nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepmother, Clara Miller; brother, John Richard (Dorothy) Miller; and sisters, Phyllis Granata and Shirley Volkmer.
Bud’s family will gather privately for a celebration of life in the spring, and he will be laid to rest in Brokensword Cemetery.
Those wishing to remember Bud with a memorial contribution are encouraged to make gifts payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children (ASHAC) and give through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus.
