Hearts are heavy and questions are left unanswered as the family and friends of Aaron Wayne Mitchell, 27, mourn his unexpected death on May 3, 2026 in Mansfield, Ohio.
He was born October 1, 1998 in Marion to Gary Aaron Mitchell and Natalie S. (Bacon) Motter. Aaron grew up in Bucyrus and Lexington where he attended school. He was a jack of many trades but had mastered flat roofing in his sleep, but he seldom slept. He was a proud member of Local 86 Roofers Union in Columbus, working all over central Ohio. There weren’t many calls that didn't include some type of roofing talk, and many conversations began with “man, you’re never gonna believe this.”
When asked what words describe Aaron, they would be loving, caring, and dedicated. He loved being with family, whether it was just going to his mom, with whom he shared a special bond, to bug her and see if she felt okay, to going to Uncle Tony’s to try and buy anything that sat around his yard, or finding a great deal online. If anyone in his family called and asked for him to help he almost always showed up with no hesitation. When it came to children, they instantly clung to him. Even with his size, he’s always been a gentle giant. He loved kids and enjoyed making them smile and laugh.
Aaron was most definitely a simple man; he loved quiet times but also loved to be loud and seen. He had a memory like no other, loved all kinds of food, especially Chinese. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes & quads, long car rides, listening to music, and spending time with his son, and with his dog, Gray. He was always checking on people to make sure they were okay or if they needed anything, even if he only had a couple dollars to help. His contagious laugh and memorable smile followed him everywhere and will be terribly missed.
Aaron will be missed by his son, Zion Wayne Mitchell; father, Aaron (Amy) Mitchell; mother, Natalie (Robbie) Motter; siblings, Zack Newmeyer, Brittney (James) Mason, Makenzie (Braxton) Snyder, and Tyler Blevins (Daz Dawson); paternal grandparents, Vickie & Jack Baldy and Nancy Mitchell; maternal grandparents, Alan & Michelle Bacon and Andy & Leslie Motter; his fiancée, Macy Banks; as well as uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Gary Mitchell and maternal grandmother, Rebecca Bonen.
Aaron’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20 from 4-7 pm at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. They will gather for a graveside funeral on Thursday, May 21 at 11:00 am in Grand Prairie Cemetery, 4964 Brush Ridge Drive North, Marion, Ohio 43302, with Pastor Don Riley officiating.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are encouraged to be made payable to Zion Mitchell and will be placed in a Mechanics Bank savings account for him. These gifts can be given at the funeral home.
Memories and photos can be shared in the guestbook on Aaron’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
