Sue A. Rogers

Sue Ann Rogers, 78, of Bucyrus, was called home on October 1, 2018 following her death at her residence.

She was born May 17, 1940 in Crawford County, Ohio, daughter of the late Lester and Belle (Reed) Finley. She graduated from Iberia High School and completed nursing school in Mansfield. Later in life, once her children were out of the home, she attended OSU Marion and received her certificate in genealogical studies as genealogy was a passion of hers.

On October 10, 1958 Sue married Robert J. Rogers. He survives, and they shared 60 years of marriage raising a family, leading others to Christ, and camping when they got the chance. Sue worked for many years as a Registered Nurse for Bucyrus Community Hospital and spent much of her time in the ER and geriatric dept. She also worked for several years at Wynford Schools as both a librarian and a truant officer. She finished her work career with JC Penney.

Bob’s work kept the family on the go and no matter where they lived, they easily found a Nazarene church for worship. Sue, being a lover of Christ, wanted to share her love with others and did so by organizing a junior church in every congregation they were involved. Countless kids were led to the Lord through her efforts. Her love for helping children was true and she and Bob were fortunate enough to foster 32 kids when they were younger. Locally, Sue has been active at the Bucyrus Nazarene Church and Wayside Chapel for many years.

Sue was into arts and crafts and was gifted in knitting and crocheting. She made afghans in what seemed like no time and shared her creations with family and friends. She dabbled in poetry and was lucky enough to have a children’s book published many years ago and she was humbled to have one of her poems placed on the 9/11 traveling memorial. Sue and Bob did a lot of traveling together and one of her favorite trips was a month-long road trip to California and back. They camped and took a lot of day trips to Amish Country and, during the fall season, which was her favorite, they cherished time spent in the Smokey Mountains. Through their travels, she easily talked Bob into stopping at a flea market or thrift store as she enjoyed collecting things, especially tea pots.

In addition to her husband, Bob, Sue is survived by two children, Tami Jacobs of Columbus and Traci (Valerie) Rogers of Bluffton; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Laura (Wayne) Pfleiderer. She was preceded in death by a son, Todd Rogers and a brother, Rex Ulmer.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, October 4 at Wise Funeral Service, where her funeral will be held at 11:30 am Friday with Pastor Tim Compton and Rev. Larry Owsley officiating. Her family will also receive friends one hour prior to funeral. Burial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday in Lafayette Cemetery in Allen County, Ohio.

Donations can be made payable to either the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio or to Heartland Hospice. These donations will be accepted through the funeral home.
