Ronald W. Lykens

Ronald W. Lykens, 73, of Bucyrus died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Altercare of Bucyrus where he had been a resident for several months.

He was born June 11, 1943 in Akron to the late Walter and Murial (Baker) Lykens. He played clarinet in the band at Garfield High School. After graduating, he worked for Goodyear before moving to West Mansfield and working for Hi-Point JVS in Bellefontaine and later settling in Bucyrus.

Ron will be remembered as an avid Ohio sports fan, ready for a conversation with anyone interested in his Indians, Browns, Cavs or Buckeyes. He seldom missed one of his grandchildren’s ball games or events and enjoyed fishing, especially in Allen Creek. He last worshiped with the congregation of Gospel Baptist Church, enjoyed listening to Christian music and had several favorite movies he watched at Altercare.

Ron loved animals and always had a pet cat. His most recent furry friend, Goldie, was abandoned by its mother but survived thanks to Ron’s care and love and they became quite attached to each other. He enjoyed playing Santa when grandkids came along and was blessed to share a nice Christmas with his family, even getting to wear his red suit for the first time in several years.

Ron is survived by two sons, Doug (Cheryl) James and Ronnie (Chi) Lykens, both of Bucyrus; daughter, Tammy Lykens and husband Philip DeSaulles of Nevada; 13 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren with one expected. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Kenneth Lykens and Judy Fletcher.

Ron will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery on a later date. At his request, no public services will be held but you can remember him with a donation to the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, c/o Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.

Memories and photos can be shared on Ron’s Tribute Wall.
