Robert R. Esler

Robert Ray Esler, Jr., 92 formerly of Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 30, 2017 at Orchard Park in Bucyrus, Ohio where he’s lived since 2014, when he moved to be closer to family.



He was born December 1, 1924 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania to the late Robert R. and Edna L. (Marshall) Esler. Robert graduated from Natrona Heights High School and was a year into college at Grove City College before being drafted by the US Army. Robert was stationed in Europe and served with the Corps of Engineers. He returned to Grove City College, completing his bachelors degree and went on to earn his MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.



Bob began his career working in county administration for Montgomery County, Maryland. In the mid-1950s, he hired in with PPG where he spent the next 32 years of his career, retiring as Director of Compensation and Benefits.



Bob is survived by Virginia “Teddy” (Harmison) Esler, his wife of 59 years; two daughters, Nancy and husband Dr. Glen McMurray of Bucyrus and Susan Esler and husband Steve Skibo of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Erin (Jason) Ross, Kelly (George) Andress, and Benjamin Skibo; four great grandchildren, Norah and Charlotte Ross and Olivia and Madelyn Andress in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.



Bob was a member of the Glenshaw Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee; a former Kiwanian; was very active with Conference Board while working at PPG and SCORE following retirement. He was an avid gardener throughout his lifetime.



Bob’s family is planning a private celebration of life service and he will be buried in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, West Virginia.



Contributions are requested to be made payable to either Grove City College to be used for their scholarship fund or to Glenshaw Presbyterian Church. These gifts will be accepted through the Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 who assisted his family. Memories are encouraged to be shared on his Tribute Wall.
