Robert L. Hickman

Robert L. Hickman, 87, of Marion and a former longtime resident of Bucyrus, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Marion Point Nursing Home.

He was born February 28, 1927 in Marion to the late Edward and Rosa E. (Sprague) Hickman. Bob attended school at Holmes Liberty and spent his entire life driving truck. He traveled every continental state in North America as well as many areas in Canada and retired because his health no longer permitted him to continue. He then tinkered with woodworking and was known for his shelves and other wood creations.

Bob was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and formerly involved with the Knights of Columbus and the Bucyrus Moose Lodge. He loved the years and time spent with his wife Rita (Kaupp) who died in 1996. Bob will be remembered for his story telling, some of which covered his time traveling from one city to the next. He enjoyed watching Bonanza and most recently relaxing in his recliner with the family cat on his lap.

He is survived by children, Linda McLeod of Marion, Dwayne (Betty) Hickman of Louisiana and Brenda (John) Coleman of Sulphur Springs; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Hickman of Bucyrus and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son, Jim Hickman and all of his siblings.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Wise Funeral Service where a memorial prayer service will follow at 11:00 a.m. that day. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
