Richard E. Adams

Richard E. Adams, 83, of Bucyrus died on Friday, December 14, 2018 at VA Contracted Nursing Home, Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead. He had lived with Alzheimer’s Disease for a few years and survived a house fire in March only to be diagnosed with lung cancer.

The only child of the late Ithiel J. and Aldene (Keesy) Adams, Dick was born July 2, 1935 in Shiloh, Ohio. They made their way to Bucyrus and he attended Bucyrus Schools. Dick worked several jobs over the years. Early on, he was an usher at Schine’s Theater making ten cents an hour and worked with horses at Pickwick Farms. He was a proud card-carrying United Iron Worker, a self-employed construction worker, and did maintenance for Pinewood Apartments.

Dick led an active and full life. He was an early riser, a tough guy, and hard worker. Most mornings started at Hardees with biscuits and gravy and a cup of coffee. In more recent years, his softer side came out and he enjoyed reminiscing about years gone by. Dick was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving 1954-1956 and stationed in San Salvador. He was a member of American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 1078, and AMVETS Post 27 where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow veterans. He began attending the Lincoln Ave. Church of Christ and was baptized this year.

Dick is survived by his wife, Charla Wurm-Adams, whom he married April 4, 2014; three children, Tamara “Tammy” Monk, Kendrick (Sherri) Adams, and Ronda Bishop; stepson, Princeton Wurm; grandchildren, Zackery Michael, Clifford “Cliff” Eugene, Kendra, Chesney, Miranda, and Erica; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Trenton James “TJ” Derenberger.

Dick’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 12 Noon at Wise Funeral Service. His family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10-11:55 am. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery where full military rites will be offered by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation should make gifts payable to AMVETS or VA Health Care System of Ohio and give through the funeral home. Memories and photos can be shared on Dick’s Tribute Wall.
