Marv Hauenstein

Marvin Lawrence Hauenstein, more commonly referred to as, Marv, passed away at the age of 89 on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Avita of Bucyrus Hospital.

Marv was born April 27, 1933 in Ashland, Ohio to the late Marion C. and Marjorie (Hartzel) Hauenstein. He was a 1951 graduate of Polk High School and received his associate degree in accounting from Mansfield Business College. On June 25, 1953 he married Betty R. Haun and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2021.

Marv served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and spent 13 months in Korea. Following his service time he returned to Polk, Ohio and in 1964 moved to Bucyrus. Marv spent 19 years as a manager for Cooper Jarret Trucking and also served as a manager for Mushroom Trucking. In 1994, he opened Marv’s Cartage, which converted to Total Warehousing. He enjoyed years spent working with his grandsons and ceased his day-to-day operations in 2000.

Marv was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bucyrus and served as an Elder. He was a 50 year 32nd degree Mason and formerly a member of the Bucyrus Moose Lodge. Marv enjoyed many years of golfing with friends and family at Galion Country Club and was also a good bowler. He bowled left handed and was one of the better one’s around, qualifying for 13 Bill Rahm Invitationals. He also enjoyed bowling in various leagues and tournaments all over the country. But of all his hobbies, time spent with family made him happiest. Marv played an active role in their lives and whatever their activity or event, he was one of their biggest supporters.

Marv was a simple man who maintained a regimented lifestyle. He ate his meals at the proper time and laundry was done every Monday. He cleared his schedule to watch his Cleveland Indians take the field and kept up on player statistics. His favorite pastime was reading and if the Bucyrus Public Library had offered frequent flyer miles for all the books he read, he and Betty could’ve traveled more than they already did. As he returned his books, Marv always initialed them with a nickname he held early in life, so if you ever come across a “Z” or “Zeke” in the back of the book, you’ll know he completed it.

Marv is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Kelly) White of Candlewood Lake and Cindy (Randy) Inscho of Bucyrus; grandchildren, Jason (Erin) McMullen, Jennay (Mark) Cacchio, Justin (Sherri) McMullen, Curtis Inscho, Craig (Anna) Inscho, Tamara (John) Rossey and Kevin (Chelsey) White; 16 great grandchildren; siblings, Opal Mae Dennison of Polk, Linda (Paul) Eichelberger of Wilmington and Larry (Carol) Hauenstein of Ashland; sisters-in-law, Doris Haun and Charity Haun as well as many extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, Marv was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Hale Dennison, Ted Haun and Ed Haun.

All service for Marv will be held at Wise Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 21. His family will receive friends from 10-11 am, followed be his funeral at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeremy McNeill officiating. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery, where Military Rites will be provided by the US Army Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

If desired, donations can be made payable to the Bucyrus Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus. These donations will be accepted through the funeral home and expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on his tribute page.
