James Stanley

James Stanley, 80, of Bucyrus died Friday, September 22, 2015 at Altercare of Bucyrus where he resided in recent years with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born October 31, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Eli and Donna Mae (Davis) Stanley. The family made its way to Bucyrus when Jim was a teenager where he attended Bucyrus Schools. He served in the US Army in Germany from 1958-1960 and worked at Swan Rubber for 44 years.

Jim was a family man who loved camping, vacationing in Florida and keeping busy. When not at his day job, he also painted houses, barns and even cars. He had a Honda Nighthawk motorcycle and did a lot of walking. He will be remembered as an easy going guy who always put others before himself. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the trade union at Swan Rubber. He loved the music of the Rat Pack and watching old comedies and westerns. Even as Alzheimer’s took its toll, Jim still enjoyed singing and his ever present whistling of familiar tunes was always a part of him.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Anderson) Stanley who he married August 7, 1981; children, Joann (Joe) Moreno of Galion, Rebekah Stanley (Scott Wolford) of Galion, and Padraic Stanley of Chicago; grandsons, Brett and Sean Moreno; brothers, William (Carol) Stanley and Robert (Virginia) Stanley, both of Bucyrus; sisters-in-law, Deborah Anderson and Christina (Timothy) Quicksall and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Edgar “Leo”, Frank, Jack and Mack Stanley and sisters, Mabel Sceva, Frances “Lucille” Lust and Marjorie Stanley.

Jim's family will receive friends on Friday, September 25 at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus from 12 Noon-2 pm and from 6:30-8:30 when the evening will conclude with a Rosary Service. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church followed by military rights by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.
