Gene Schwartz

Leslie Eugene Schwartz, 73, better known as Gene, died Friday afternoon, August 22, 2014 at home where he was with his precious family.

Son. Brother. Husband. Father. Grandfather. Uncle. Nephew. Friend. History-lover, hunter, traveler, mischievous prankster, epic storyteller and a founding member of the Colonel Crawford "Front Row Crew." A fixer-of anything broken, a sage advice giver, and the person you knew you could always count on. Big hug giver, a holder of hands, warmer of hearts and a devoted family man through and through. To know him was to love him, and to be loved by him...a blessing.

Devoted son of the late Leslie and Janet (Harvey) Schwartz, Gene was born July 5, 1941 in Bucyrus. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1959 and worked for 41 years at PPG in Crestline while also farming, crafting and volunteering with 4-H as an advisor and livestock judge. He fell in love with Rosie Sipes almost the moment he saw her taking laps in her Pontiac convertible. They were quickly introduced by close friends and were married May 15, 1963. For over 51 years, their love and commitment to one another only continued to grow, even on their final day together.

Gene was the loving, protective big brother to Gary (Gale) Schwartz, Judy (Lyle) Candel, Joyce (Bob) Gibson, Jo (Larry) Fullencamp and Jackie (Dave) Cochran; precious father of Lori (Carl) Bock, Lisa Stine, Lynn (Ken) Jenner and Jason Schwartz (fiancée Melissa Lennard); father-in law to Brent Stine and Lori Archer and beloved grandfather to 17 children and young adults—his love, wisdom, and epic stories will live on in them forever.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Daniel Pifher and William Grundmann.

The Schwartz family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 26 from 3-7 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
