Dorothy A. Volk

Dorothy Ann Volk, 85, of Bucyrus died Tuesday morning, October 30, 2018 at Orchard Park Assisted Living where she had resided for three years.



She was born in Texas Twp. on April 21, 1933 to the late Harvey and Mabel (Coffman) Reffner. Dorothy graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1951 and shortly thereafter, began working as a waitress at Volk’s Candy and Nut Store where the owners, Beatrice and Paul Volk, introduced her to their nephew Frederick E. Volk following his return from the Navy. The two were married on November 27, 1954, sharing 34 years of marriage until his death in 1988. Dorothy also worked at Timken a short time before starting a family and caring for them as an amazing homemaker. She was very particular about the home’s appearance and was a gifted cook and baker, especially her homemade pies.



While she was always most comfortable at home, outside of home Dorothy was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and the former Bucyrus Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her joy was hosting family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was also an avid baseball and softball fan, particularly the Cleveland Indians and any teams on which her grandchildren played.



Dorothy is survived by children, John (Donna) Volk, Robert (Jayne) Volk, Carol (Scott) Fishpaw, and Barbara (Kalvin) Lewis; grandchildren, Katherine (Stephen) Volk, Bryce (Ashley) Volk, Brayden Volk, Bryanna (Danny) Crute, Blake Volk, Don (Erin) Fishpaw, Christopher (Robyn) Fishpaw, Heather (Matt) Miller, Gavin Lewis, and Alivia Lewis; and great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Evan, Ellya, Winston, and Emerson.



In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandson, Paul Volk; sister, Lois Christy; and a stillborn brother.



The Volk family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, November 1 at Wise Funeral Service where her funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00 am with Pastor Renee Ahern officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
