Dolores "Dee" Alspach

Dolores Marie “Dee” Alspach, 75, of Bucyrus, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Altercare of Bucyrus following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Dee was born February 19, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Josephine Rini and graduated from Euclid High School and the University of Findlay. She taught physical education in the Fostoria School system before accepting a health and physical education position at Wynford where she also became their first girls’ basketball coach. On May 16, 1969 she married Larry W. Alspach and when they started a family, Dee became a homemaker until her boys were older. She next worked at Food Town where she spent 20 years until retiring. Following this, Dee devoted the rest of her free time volunteering for Contact Crawford County, as a way of helping others.

Dee’s first love was for God! She was a member at Mt. Zion UMC where she was both a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She sang with the choir and volunteered in any fashion to help the church. Her family was her other love! Known as “grandma, g-ma or even graham cracker by her grandchildren, she was their number one fan and a feisty supporter when watching them participate in their athletic events. Dee loved Sunday afternoons and holidays when her family would gather and play euchre and various other games but as much fun as it was to gather, Dee enjoyed nothing more than winning and showed no mercy when playing UNO.  Dee also enjoyed time spent with fellow ladies of the Red Hat Society.

In addition to Larry, her husband of 45 years, Dee is survived by two sons, Michael (Peggy) Alspach and their three children, Kaleb, Rylee and Jordyn and Mark F. (Misti) Alspach and their two children, Sydney and Bailey all living in Bucyrus. Dee is also survived by her close cousin, Robert (Janet) Rini of Mentor and one brother-in-law, Tom (Patricia) Alspach of Bucyrus.

Along with her parents, Dee is preceded in death by two uncles, Nick and Mike Rini and her father and mother-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Alspach.

Her family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 21 at Wise Funeral Service. Funeral services for Dee will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion UMC with Pastor Matt Wilson Officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

It’s requested that memorial contributions be given to the Mt. Zion UMC or to Crawford County Contact through the funeral home.
