Charlie Lyons

Charlie Lyons, 73, of Bucyrus died early Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Heartland of Bucyrus after failing health for several months.

He was born in Bucyrus on September 22, 1945 to the late Thomas D. and Harriet M. (Luidhardt) Lyons. Charlie grew up on the farm where the Lyons family instilled hard work and faith. He attended school at Holmes-Liberty and worked most of his life as a truck driver, both independently and for various companies. He retired after driving lastly for Quinn’s in Bucyrus.

Charlie was a friendly, fun-loving man who never met a stranger. He would often sit down at a restaurant for lunch with one person, and it soon turned into a reunion of sorts as everyone who called him or walked in and knew him was invited to join him and visit. He was a devoted caretaker to his beloved wife, Dianne K. (Cooper) Lyons, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2012. He also was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and especially fish, usually with more than four lines in at once. A simple man, Charlie was happy with a bologna and cheese sandwich so long as he could watch his Buckeyes and Indians play ball. Many good times were shared over pinochle and euchre games with his family and throughout the area. He loved his siblings, talking almost daily to his sisters, and he was so proud and supportive of his children, never letting a moment with his daughters end without telling them he loved them and how proud he was of them.

Charlie is survived by daughters, Katina (Brian) Shell and their son, Derek and Natalie (Ben) Otto and their children, Cole and Cora; sons, Todd Kelly and his son, Jacob and Kristopher Edgington and his children, Christopher and Emily and grandchildren, Kenzley, Kennadie, Rilann, and one expected. Also surviving are sisters, Lois Blaney, Joyce Spiegel, and Sandy (Tom) Kellogg; and so many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Charlie was preceded in death by brothers, Bob, Ray, Glen, Roger, and Richard Lyons; sister, Margaret (Tubby) Hildenbrand; and brothers-in-law, Charles Blaney and Wayne Spiegel.

Charlie’s family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3 from 11 am -12:55 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4707 Ridgeton-Annapolis Road, where his memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm and will conclude with inurnment in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
