Carolyn Marne McMurray, 87, died Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home of the last four years surrounded by family.



Carolyn was born September 18, 1930 in Glendale, California to the late Howard and Maxine (Lawrence) Haag. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. where she was captain of the cheerleading squad. After attending the University of Colorado, she received her B.A. degree from Oakland University in Michigan. Carolyn then earned two graduate degrees from Kent State University in Ohio including a Master of Library Science degree and became the first librarian for the Kent State - Geauga campus. The library became a center for Amish craft exhibits through her acquaintances within the community. Carolyn also had a great interest in botany and developed many field trip opportunities for students.



Carolyn is survived by Martin E. McMurray, her husband of 67 years; son Brian R. McMurray, MD and wife Catherine of Brentwood, Tennessee; son Glen A. McMurray, DDS and wife Nancy of Bucyrus; son Bruce H. McMurray and wife Julie of Burton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Heather (Emerson) Hart, Mary Ellen (Drew) McMillin, Carolyn King, Kelly (George) Andress, Erin (Jason) Ross, Corey (Jennifer) McMurray, Zachary McMurray and Garrett (Brianna) McMurray and nine great grandchildren, Lucie Hart, Noah and Addison McMillin, Evelyn and Isla King, Olivia and Madelyn Andress, Norah and Charlotte Ross. Carolyn is also survived by one sister, Sandie Grant of Yadkinville, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by son Kelton S. McMurray, DVM and sister Jeri James.



Carolyn was a devoted mother to her four sons. She was an avid swimmer, loved playing the piano, bicycling and was active in the Audubon Society. She was passionate about world travel with an emphasis on bird watching. She and Martin had the good fortune to be a part of many cruises and lived in 14 different states throughout their married life. After retirement, she with husband Martin, spent many summers in Maui and Vermont and later in life split their time between North Carolina and Florida. They moved to Bucyrus, Ohio to be closer to their extended family.



Carolyn’s family is planning a private celebration of life service at Wise Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Corwin. She will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.



Memorial expressions may be made to Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center. Memories and photos are encouraged to be shared on her Tribute Wall.
